[...] Life in the Blue had a great post about the NCAA tournament and it’s effect on the workplace. Couple that with my pending trip to Key West (yes, I’m 24 and I go on Spring Break. In fact, I am the youngest person going on this trip by far), and I’m inclined to focus on things outside of this link-getting world. [...]

I think most people missed the main point of this post, which was to ever-so-subtly infer that it will no longer be cool in these parts to wear Reef sandals after April 30th.

For me, this boils down to each employee's relationship with their employer (both perceived and real). People should feel like they are free to take personal time if they want to. They should also feel an obligation to perform. Trust flowing in both directions. When the big boys don't trust the kids they institute stupid crap like no NCAA time at work. When the kids don't trust the big boys they feel mistreated and unappreciated, like "they're getting rich and I'm doing the work". Taking away my NCAA time, those bastards.

My solution? Have sing-a-longs and tell people you love them. Distance breeds contempt. That's why I never talk to Donkey at work, it makes him upset.

I know what you mean!

One of our company's huge clients organized a pool for its employees and their associated partners, emailing:

"We want all of our Partners and thier employees to participate along with our employees."

We got the email yesterday afternoon. I entered my picks. This
morning I went to check to make sure I did it right and the site had been
blocked. I'm sure our client will appreciate: 1)Our lack of
participation 2) Being told, basically, that we don't have time for their
juvenille games; and 3)Having their bonding attempts rebuffed.

THAT, in my opinion is bad business.

Let us discuss:

1. I know a lot about basketball. For example, Creighton and Southern Illinois are in the Missouri Valley Conference. As such, I have selected both.
2. Linking the USPS under disgruntled workers is libel.
3. Calling Corporate America a "toolbox" is funny. It's also funny to step up the game and substitute "toolbox" for "tool" in day to day conversation about those you disdain.
4. Jim Nantz is passed his peak and now just gives me the creeps. (Bring on Chris Collingsworth.) His peak, if you wonder, was his interview with Evander Holyfield post ear-bite incident. Class A work.
5. Crayons reflect highly upon your professionalism.

I can't claim to anything about this because I'm not in a position of management, but it seems pretty obvious to me that when people are enjoying the time they spend at work they work harder. If one can listen to a Kansas game (Big XII represent, represent-sent) while they fill out one excel after another, it's possible, just possible, they won't realize how boring their little cubicle life is.
